Pets of the House

Meet Kalli the bird, King the big dog and Max the puppy. The koi in the pond, the parakeets and the finches were not up to a photoshoot. Maybe next time. We've had the bird for a year now, and he basically rules his roost. He is not a very amiable fellow and likes to screech nasty sounds in the morning. Imagine if we taught him not-so-nice words?

King is too big for his size. He is cross between a pitbull and a boxer, and was an experiment in social learning theory. He grew up a gentle and friendly dog. He looks scary and big, but that is all there is to it. He does not even bark at strangers. One time, the new meter reader for the power company refused to enter the yard and read the meter, then hastily left a note. "Meter not read. Ugly dog in yard." It said it all. I felt bad for the dog, but glad he could not read a word of the tag that hung by his play area the entire day.

Then there is Max the puppy, a golden Lab mix. He's been with us barely a month and he seems very comfortable in his new home. I featured him in a previous post. He is getting bigger, and his paws are remarkable. I still need to bring him to the vet and complete the shots, then the groomer for his first nail trim and professional grooming, then to puppy school, on Saturdays this summer. For doggie manners, fun tricks and nice habits.

  2. hello, connie.
kalli is really something. today, i had to refill his water bowls at least six times! he would peck at the rim and swing the hinged bowl to spill the water, then screech out loudly (like: hey give me some more water!!?). King ahs taken up max's habit of taking his dry food with a bit of milk. now the big dog will not eat without milk on his dry food, too. this alone would keep anyone busy, eh?
