I was doing my homework on the dining room table this afternoon and noticed this awesome sight. On a glass bowl resting on an old terracotta urn, we set out some ripe organically-grown oranges that a friend picked from a farm in Riverside and sent over during the weekend. They were not as pretty as commercially grown oranges. They were scarred, blotchy and had rough rinds, but break them open and the wedges just ooze such tart and sweet orange goodness. This batch must have survived the winter chill, and we got it for free, too!! I just love how the light hit the oranges set in mounds of tiny key limes. The detailed shot reminds me of a Flemish painting. I noticed that I can only take pictures such as these at 2:30 in the afternoon on a spring day, when the sun passes through the sunroof over the kitchen at a precise angle. No flash, no fancy lens work required. Just point and shoot.
